FACADE FACTORY UTOPIA
project: Label4Future, a project commissioned by European Commission
For the EU, strategies were developed to make production of chairs more circular. The furniture manufacturor who is part of the project is making furniture in Romania. Their facility is moving out of the centre to make place for residential housing which is more profitable in urbanized areas than manufacturing. This continues trend enhances a linear production, whereas a circular economy benefits from small production cycles close to consumers.
Us, people need a flat surface to produce. But robots and AI are not constrained to horizontal surfaces. What do buildings look like when the vertical square meters are utilized for waste management, recycling and production? A utopia is envisioned where manufacturing takes place on the facades of buildings.

WASTE BROUGHT TO TOP
The waste is brought to the highest floor. The vertical elevation of the building is used to seperate materials from the waste. The movements to bring the waste to the roof are visual on the inside of the building, creating a dynamic and enriched interior.
